Mum urges Mullingar people to protest

Lydia Clery has urged the people of Mullingar to join the peaceful protest which is taking place outside Our Lady’s Hospital in Crumlin this Saturday.

“Children with special needs, children with leukaemia, children with heart problems, terminally ill children, have all had their medical cards taken off them – you wouldn’t believe it!

“It’s an attack on our kids, and indeed, it’s an attack on the elderly (who have had their medical card taken off them), it’s discrimination,” said the distraught mother, who spoke to the Westmeath Examiner from Eirin’s bedside in Our Lady’s Hospital today.

A massive campaign surrounding eight-year-old Eirin, who was born with three chromosomal disorders, to have her medical card reinstated reached fever pitch last week, until Lydia was informed earlier that the medical cards were being reinstated for both her and her daughter.
“I’m relieved that the medical card has been reinstated, it just hit me yesterday, but Eirin was just one of many who had it taken off her,” she explained.

“I’m still urging everyone in Mullingar to come out and join the protest, it’s a peaceful protest, everyone should go. There’s no point in complaining after the fact.
“We need to stand together on this one.

A peaceful protest is taking place outside Our Lady’s Hospital in Crumlin this Saturday, 2-4pm, in support of all the sick children who have lost their medical cards.
