Ballymore to host 2011 Westmeath Fleadh

The village of Ballymore will be the centre of musical and cultural attention in Westmeath in May of next year, when it hosts the 2011 Westmeath Fleadh Cheoil.Planning for the event - which takes place between May 13 and 15, 2011 - has already begun, and the event was discussed at length at the recent AGM of the Ballymore branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.Set dancing competitions will take place on Friday, May 13, followed by a céilí on the Saturday and all other competitions on Sunday, May 15.This is the first time that the CCE branch in Ballymore will host the county fleadh, and the committee has appealed to the whole community to join in the preparations over the coming months, in order to make it a successful and memorable event.The next meeting of Ballymore CCE will take place on November 25, and all are welcome, with the venue and time to be confirmed.At the AGM, new officers were elected for the 2010/11 calendar:Padraic Keena (chairperson), Mary McCormack (vice-chairperson), Sean Finnerty (secretary), Imelda Finnerty (treasurer), Marie Therese Nally (youth officer and Irish language officer), Mary McCormack and Niamh Keena (delegates to the County Board), Rose Longworth (Auditor), Imelda Finnerty (Child Protection Officer) and Colette Glynn (PRO).CongratulationsThe club congratulated the winners from Westmeath in this year’s All-Ireland Fleadh: Audrey Murphy (Moate CCE - Tin Whistle), St. Malachy’s (set dancing), Bunbrosna (set dancing) and Streamstown (set dancing).SympathyVotes of sympathy were passed to the Garry, Foster, Finnerty and Meehan families on the loss of their loved ones in the past year.
