Joanne surrendering her hair for charity

A Kilbeggan school leaver isn’t worried about when the hairdressers re-open – for she is planning the most drastic style change possible later this summer.

Eighteen-year old Joanne Whaley is planning to have her head shaved on August 25, in a bid to raise funds for the Marie Curie charity.

Why is she doing it? “Because I want to make a difference and help others,” she explains.

The Marie Curie charity offers expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness.

The former Mercy Kilbeggan student has set herself a target figure of €600, and has a JustGiving page set up to make it easy for people to sponsor her.

It’s a brave sacrifice by a young girl just weeks before she heads for college – but her action is no surprise to those who know her well: “She is the most kind-hearted person in the world,” says her sister Belinda.
