• Official Mullingar Fleadh bid document to be launched
Ceili House is being pre-recorded in the Annebrook House Hotel this coming Sunday, October 21 (1-3pm) for a programme to be broadcast on December 1 on RTÉ Radio 1.
The broadcast will highlight the efforts of Westmeath Comhaltas in their bid to host Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in the coming years.
The Mullingar Branch and Westmeath Comhaltas, in conjunction with the Westmeath County Council, are to host an official visit of delegates and decision makers within the wider branch of Leinster Comhaltas on Saturday November 17.
The visit, which is now part of the authorised bid process, will take in a tour of Mullingar and the wider area, lunch in The Greville Arms Hotel and a closing reception at Belvedere House.
In preparation for this integral day for the Mullingar bid, the Mullingar Fleadh Bid Committee are organising a public meeting (October 25 at 6.30pm) to officially launch the bid document and to discuss the visit on November 17.
Joe Connaire, chair of Westmeath Comhaltas, said: “As the people of Mullingar know we are well under way with our bid to host the Fleadh in Mullingar in either 2020 or 2021.
“To aid our Bid, we have invited the Leinster delegates down to Mullingar to show them all our town has to offer and how it would be the ideal location to host the national Fleadh.
“But we can’t do this alone.
“We are calling on the people of Mullingar to help us show a cead mile fáilte to the delegates.
“If you are a business owner, why not put up a welcome sign in your window, or pedestrians, if you see us touring the street with the delegates, why not come to say hello and let them know what it would mean for Mullingar to host the Fleadh once again.
“We have been working on our bid document for a number of months and hope to launch it and our video at the next public meeting on October 25.
“So please can everyone attend and helps us get this over the line – we really need your support now, on November 17 and in the coming months.
“I would really like to take this opportunity to thanks all those who have supported us this far with particular reference to Westmeath County Council for their continuing support.”
Everyone is welcome the Ceili House session at the Annebrook House Hotel this Sunday, October 21 (1-3pm).
