NWTAG hold fundraising walk
The members of the North Westmeath Turbine Action Group will find out later this year whether their High Court challenge against An Bord Pleanla's decision to grant planning permission to Statkraft Ireland for a wind farm in the Coole Area has been successful.
In a press relase to the Westmeath Examiner, NWTAG chairperson Jen Gallagher reports on a recent fundraiser the group held:
“On a thankfully dry August Bank Holiday Monday Clarissa and John Delamere generously hosted a very enjoyable guided fundraising walk for the North Westmeath Turbine Action Group (NWTAG) through the woods and up to the summit of Knockyon overlooking Lough Derravaragh.
“After a decent trek the tired, hungry and thirsty walkers were treated to tea and a delicious array of home-made cakes which were most gratefully received by all. Proceeds raised from the walk are to be used by the North Westmeath Turbine Action Group’s ongoing fight against the industrialisation of the rural countryside in North Westmeath by Coole Wind Farm and the legal battle that they now find themselves in.
“It is important to also state that The North Westmeath Turbine Action Group is a voluntary community organisation that exists to protect our local environment, flora and fauna from the devastating effects of large-scale industrial turbines. Without fundraising opportunities such as the recent sponsored walk and the support of the local community in general we would not be able to continue the fight against Coole Wind Farm which compared to our group has unlimited resources.
“I would like to thank all of those who made the walk such a wonderful success; our fantastic hosts Clarissa and John Delamere, the informative guides and the bakers and tea makers who provided the refreshments and of course those who walked with us, supported us and/or gave donations.
“We also are hugely appreciative of the hard work and dedication shown by all the people involved in this fight, the volunteers, group and committee members, environmental and archaeological advisors and of course our legal team. It has been a pleasure working with each and every one of them and we hope to continue to do so until this battle has been won and the threat posed to our community by Coole Wind Farm becomes consigned to history.”
