Wilson’s Hospital School prizegiving
Wilson’s Hospital School prizegiving, the annual celebration of learning and achievement, is a highlight in the school’s annual calendar.
Last academic year was such a different one in all schools and the prizegivingwas also different because it had to take place virtually since physical distancing would not allow the whole school community (students, staff, families and friends) to be together.
So instead, everyone logged in online to take part in the event.
In her address, school principal, Mrs McShane, gave an account of events thay took place throughout the year and she was delighted to be able to celebrate the hard work and commitment shown by everyone in the school, despite the enormous diversities faced due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Unfortunately, it was not possible to invite the prizewinners from the class of 2020 back to the school for the event, but Mrs McShane congratulated them all for their successes in the Leaving Certificate.
Prize winners from the local area included Henry Beadle and Dominic McKeon (Ryder Cup for LC Maths), Georgia O’Broin and Nicole Forster (Leney Prize for LC English), Andrew Chambers, Aoibh Buchanan, Ellen Higgins, Emma McHugh and Sarah Scott.
Archdeacon Leslie Stevenson, chairman of the board of governors, thanked everyone in the school community for their work over the last year.
He particularly thanked Mr Foley Fisher, who is retiring from his role on the school management board, after more than 30 of being involved with the school management.
The archdeacon welcomed all the new students and staff to the school, especially the new chaplain, Mr Hawkins.
The prizewinners were announced by deputy principal, Mr Galligan.
Photographs of the prize winners were taken with the students socially distanced when they returned to school after half term. Congratulations to them all.
