True love – Anne and Paddy are 63 years married

Anne and Paddy Cusack aren’t just Rahugh’s most senior citizens, but they are believed to be one of the longest-married couples in Ireland.

The two – who are both natives of Rahugh – were 63 years married on Friday week last, August 18.

It was on August 18, 1954 that Anne and Paddy were wed at the church in Rahugh, having started courting two years earlier.

The bridesmaid was Anne’s sister May Crombie and the best man was Paddy’s brother John Cusack – father of RTÉ meteorologist Evelyn Cusack.

Following the church ceremony, the reception was held at Bolger’s Hotel in Tullamore, and the couple drove south to spend their honeymoon touring Killarney and the Gap of Dungloe.

Paddy and Anne have three sons, Aidan, Ignatius and Cathal, and two daughters Mary and Patricia. Coincidentally, their son Cathal and his wife Aine also celebrate their wedding anniversary on the same date.
