Heslin the hero as Westmeath win promotion

An injury time winning point from star midfielder John Heslin ensured that Westmeath footballers will be back in Division 1 of Allianz National Football League next season.

The Lakesiders secured promotion to the top flight courtesy of a narrow 0-17 to 0-16 victory over Armagh in Cusack Park this afternoon.

The homeside's conditioning coaches are obviously doing something right because Pat Flanagan's men bossed the second half after going in at the break five points behind. Half time score Westmeath 0-5 Armagh 0-10.

A whirlwind start to the second half saw Westmeath draw level by the 42nd minute and both sides had their moments before Heslin slotted over a free kick in injury much to the delight of the crowd.
