Church Island floating in the sky - Lough Owel at its spectacular best

Lough Owel and Westmeath's other lakes have been a Godsend for many people over the last 14 months, particularly the county's ever growing number of open water swimmers.

Readers Daisy Cleary and Leo Anderson sent us in photos taken yesterday when Lough Owel was looking even better than usual.

In a message posted on our Facebook page, Daisy said: "I took this photo of Church Island on Lough Owel yesterday. The water was so still it reflected the sky perfectly and gives the effect the island is floating among the clouds."

Leo's photo was taken in the evening when the lake's still waters reflected the spectacular sunset.
