Irish Water working to restore the water supply in Knockdrin area following burst main
Irish Water is working with Westmeath County Council to carry out urgent repairs to restore the water supply in Knockdrin and surrounding areas following a burst on the watermain. Crews are working as quickly and as safely as possible in line with COVID-19 protocols.
Customers in the following areas may be impacted by disruption to their supply while the repairs are underway: Knockdrin, Monilea, Crookedwood, Crazy Corner, Loughagar, Baronstown, Galmoylestown, Mornington, Killynnan, Clondrisse and surrounding areas.
Speaking about the repair works, Matthew Thompson, Irish Water said, “Irish Water understands the inconvenience when a burst occurs and thanks customers for their patience while we work to repair the burst and restore normal supply to impacted customers as quickly and as safely as possible.”
Repairs are expected to be completed later this morning. Once the repairs are successfully completed, normal water supply will begin to be restored, however, it may take 1-2 hours to return as water refills the network.
Irish Water, working in partnership with Westmeath County Council, continues with essential upgrade works in Knockdrin and surrounding areas to improve the security of supply and reduce reduce high levels of leakage. The works involve the replacement of approximately 1.3km of old and problematic water mains that are prone to leaks and bursts, causing supply disruptions for customers. When completed, these improvement works will reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost to leakage, providing a safe, secure and more reliable water supply for home and businesses in the area. These essential works are being carried out on behalf of Irish Water, in adherence with the HSE and government guidance on COVID-19, by GMC Utilities and are expected to be completed in June 2021.
