Ray D’Arcy on his Today FM show this morning said Mullingar was likely to become the new Memphis with the long list of stars it was producing.

He made the comments after it emerged that local lad Niall Horan was back in his home town enjoying time out at the lake before his series of One Direction gigs in the O2 Dublin.

D’Arcy said the Market Square would become crowded with statues of famous local stars, adding that alongside the late great Joe Dolan, Niall Breslin and Niall Horan would take pride of place.

Last week Niall Horan reached 10 million Twitter followers - 37th highest in the world!
