Emergency services still at scene of devastating Glenisk fire
Emergency services are continuing to battle a major blaze which has caused substantial damage to the award-winning Glenisk dairy plant at Newtown, outside Killeigh.
The fire, which is understood to have broken out around lunchtime today (Monday), is still being brought under control by over 30 firefighters from both the Offaly and Laois Fire & Rescue Service.
While there are no reports of any injuries, it is understood that a number of staff who were evacuated from the dairy facility were treated by members of the ambulance service for smoke inhalation.
Fire crews from Offaly Fire Stations in Tullamore, Clara and Edenderry are being assisted at the scene of the blaze by their colleagues from the nearby town of Portarlington in neighbouring Laois.
Members of the public have been advised by Offaly County Council to avoid the area of the blaze between the village of Killeigh and Annaharvey, on the main Tullamore to Geashill road, and local people living in the vicinity of the fire in Newtown have been asked to remain indoors.
