Mullingar Tanzania charity nearing end of building project

The annual table quiz in aid of Tanzanian Heavenly Homes takes place at Annebrook House Hotel on Friday April 22 at 8pm.

John McCauley, the Mullingar photographer behind the charity, said that their team in Tanzania are working on the last of the buildings for their project.

“We have built five units, which will house 10 people, each with their own bedrooms and toilets,” said John.

“We have built a kitchen dinning area too, so each day a cook will prepare three meals for them – they would never have had that before.”

John paid tribute to the many people here at home who have supported him and his fellow volunteers at Tanzanian Heavenly Homes.

“The people of Mullingar and surrounding areas have all paid for this project. Each unit cost €4000 to build, including materials and labour.

“Each unit will have solar lighting and we are also building a wash area where the people can have their clothes cleaned.

“We also hope to have a small garden for them to grow their own veg.”

John and the team are planning a visit to Tanzania in the summer. “There are 15 travelling with me this year, we will have a big party for all the poor and older people in the area.

“Our students will sing and play music for them and the local children will do their dances and music, and we will invite local government officials to see what the Irish people have done for the poor of that area of Tanzania.”
