Mullingar karate club duo represent Ireland in Spain
Mullingar Kyokushinkai Karate Club’s Dimitar Stoyanov and coach Ken Fitzpatrick were both in Valencia, Spain recently, representing their club and country, as fighter and coach respectively, at the IFK World Open Full-Contact (Knockdown) Karate tournament.
Unfortunately, Dimitar lost his match against a very tough opponent from Kazakhstan, who went on to win the U18 65kg category. Dimitar fought well but gave away 4kg in weight and was one year younger than the tough Kazakh competitor.
Both Mullingar lads gained invaluable experience and hope to face the next challenge that lies ahead at the British Open and European Cup in London, which is fast approaching.
Mullingar Kyokushinkai Karate Club trains twice weekly at the Mullingar Parish Centre on Bishopsgate Street (Tuesday/Saturday), and caters for participants aged six to adult, both male and female.
This year sees the return of the club’s very popular summer camp (August 15-19) for children aged six to 16 years. This will be based at the Parish Centre and outdoors (weather permitting). Newcomers/beginners are always welcome.
