Lough Lene Gaels ceremony in honour of Darren Mortimor, RIP, today
The spirit, talent and character of a young man much loved by his community is to be honoured this weekend.
Darren Mortimor, who died in road accident in July 1999, was only 22 years old, but had already shown himself to be an amazing talent on the field, with his club the Lough Lene Gaels, and a wonderful young man off the field.
His passing left his community brokenhearted.
Today, Saturday, at 3pm, his passionate commitment to his sport, club and community will be recognised officially at a dedication ceremony in which the pitch, just outside Collinstown, will be named after him.
Lough Lene Gaels will broadcast the event and it will be part of a fundraising family fun day, and bring to a close a fundraising campaign that has seen great work undertaken by its members including a 24-hour walkathon, table quizzes, bike rides and raffles.
