Hospital management make case for more resources to health minister

Members of the senior management team at the Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar took the opportunity to outline their ambitions for the hospital to the health minister this week.

Stephen Donnelly, TD, Minister for Health, was in Mullingar for the Fianna Fáil meetings at the Mullingar Park Hotel ahead of the reopening of the Dáil, and hospital manager, Kay Slevin and clinical director, Dr Murat Kirca, spoke to him.

Ms Slevin said: “The meeting was extremely constructive. Mullingar hospital continuously endeavour to develop services and maximise the use of space within the hospital campus to support the delivery of a quality service to our patients.

“We outlined clearly to the minister what needs to be done to achieve this and we felt that Minister Donnelly really did listen and take our views on board.

“We are appreciative to the minister for meeting with us, and to Deputy Robert Troy for arranging the meeting. Deputy Troy’s continued support for Regional Hospital Mullingar is also appreciated.”

The main projects and areas discussed for development were:

• Staffing of the MRI Service, on completion of the MRI project

• Investment in the refurbishment of the catering department for both staff and patients

• Development of an acute floor

• Development of an additional theatre space

• Confirmation of funding for the new outpatient development due to commence in October 2022

In a statement, hospital management said they and staff look forward to working with HSE, the minister for health and Department of Health to help to deliver on these projects for the people of Mullingar and surrounding areas.
