‘Rambling at the Fleadh’ wins gold award

Athlone Community Radio (ACR) received gold and silver awards at the 2022 Craol ceremony sponsored by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) in Galway on Thursday night

‘Rambling at the Fleadh’ received a Craol (Community Radio Forum of Ireland) gold award.

The eight-day series broadcast during the Fleadh Cheoil in Mullingar in August was produced by Anna Kavanagh, who co-presented it with Ray Dolan, Mullingar, and Lily Mullen, Castlepollard.

ACR assistant manager, Amanda Gunning, and programme coordinator, Philomena Murphy, were also on the team who broadcast highlights each day for the duration of the fleadh.

ACR also received a silver award for their series featuring Spanish Students attending the Lakeland Language School.

This is a second Craol award for Anna Kavanagh, who retired from teaching in St Joseph’s Secondary School, Rochfortbridge in 2018.

‘Taste the Pure Drop’, a series she produced and presented for ACR, received a Craol gold award in 2019.

Anna presents ‘The Rambling House’, ACR’s flagship traditional music programme.

Ray Dolan has built up a large following on several social media platforms using the hashtag ‘From Mullingar in Mullingar’.

Athboy native, Lily Mullen, comes from a family steeped in traditional Irish music and has collaborated with Anna on a number of artistic projects.

‘Rambling at the Fleadh’ was her first venture in radio.

The Craol Achievement Awards are open to community radio stations in the republic who have a broadcasting licence.

‘The Rambling House’ broadcasts on Fridays at 4-6pm. It’s available in Athlone on 84.8fm and is via the TuneIn app.
