Delvin"s Tudenham Cup team defeated by Birr GC
The Tudenham Cup team were narrowly defeated by Birr GC in the final of the competition which was played in Mullingar Golf Club on Saturday last, October 18.The game was played in a very sporting manner in which every player on both sides gave their all. It went right down to the last match and Birr came out on top on the seventeenth. It was a tremendous achievement to get to the final but it was disappointing that we didn"t go all the way.Great credit must go to team captain John Ayres who put in a huge effort in team preparation during the campaign. He had a great panel to work with and each member was very focused on the job in hand.We congratulate Birr on a great victory, the second year in a row for them, and no doubt they will be setting their sights on a hat-trick in 2009. Let"s hope that Delvin Castle can go one better next year.We would like to thank Mullingar GC for hosting this event and for organising it so efficiently. The presentation of the cup and prizes took place in the clubhouse that evening after a beautiful meal. Wallace Recycling sponsored this event. The team who represented Delvin Castle in the final was Anthony Foy, Liam Hennessy, Kenny Weymes, David Fulham, Enda Lambden, Jonathan Duggan, Christy King, Stephen Kelly (Club Captain), John Plunkett and Peter Earley.Other members of the panel were Jim Fulham (Vice Captain), Pat Walsh and Paul Garry.Sunday, October 19:Christmas Hamper, Sponsored by Lenihen Butchers, DelvinWinner: Donie Cassidy 67 (O.L.9); Runner-up: Michael Rooney 67; Gross: David Fulham 76Cat 1: 1.
