Fáilte Ireland for Market House
Fáilte Ireland is to increase its presence in Mullingar town centre, following agreement by Westmeath County Council to lease to the body a portion of the first floor of the landmark Market House.
County council members were asked at their December monthly meeting held yesterday, Monday, to approve the five-year lease, at a rent of €6,300 per annum.
Setting out the detail for members, council executive Pat Gallagher stated in a written document that at present, the Market House provides accommodation for the Mullingar Tourist Information Centre (TIC), on part of the ground floor and the remaining ground floor office space is occupied by the Mullingar Chamber of Commerce.
Mr Gallagher explained that Fáilte Ireland wants to locate its administrative office space on part of floor one.
“Relocating their administrative functions to The Market House would allow for greater collaboration and efficiencies, consolidating the organisation’s service to the Westmeath area,” Mr Gallagher’s document to the members stated.
He added that to determine the rent, a market rent valuation for the office space was requested from the Valuation Office and they arrived at the figure of €6,300 per annum.
The document went on to say that the Fáilte Ireland administrative function would, in principle, be a fitting tenant and a suitable use for part of floor one of The Market House, which is a protected structure.
