The competition for the President's (Mr. Austin Witter) prize took place over the week end.Play commenced at lunch time on Saturday and despite the many counter attractions there was a full time sheet through Saturday evening and all day Sunday. As expected with the magnificent fare on offer, particularly the fabulous first prize, the competition was fierce with everybody playing their socks off to try getting into the enclosure. And befitting the event there was a very low winning score.The popular winner of this 'major' with a magnificent sixty four nett was Alan Kelly, who has been playing well of late. At the end of the day Alan had just two shots to spare over last year's captain's prize runner-up, Colm Murphy. Hang in there Colm. The winners on the night were Kevin F Barry (22) 37 points, John Ahern (21) 36 points and Gerry Caffrey (18) with thirty five. This Thursday sees the annual M.A. Stephens & Co. sponsored long handicap open day. Again entries are being taken on the BRS. Prize presentation takes place on that night.Congratulations GerryFinally, heartiest congratulaltions to Gerry Duffy. one of our esteemed , long standing club members and his running colleague Ken Whitelaw on their magnificent achievement in running thirty two marathons in the same number of days all over the country in aid of very wothy causes including Autism Ireland and Saplings School, Mullingar. Several members of the golf club and numerous other locals ran with them on their last leg on Monday lastLadies BranchTemple Country Retreat and Spa, that haven of peace and tranquillity, sponsored the competition on Wednesday, July 28.A large crew turned out to do battle for the wonderful prizes on offer. On the day it took a magnificent 40 points to take the spoils. None other than Past Lady Captain and Captain of the Junior Cup squad Miriam McManus was the victor. Playing of a handicap of 20 Miriam had her best round to date this year.The runner up spot with 39 points, courtesy of an eagle on three, went to Cally O'Donovan.Mary McCauley retained her grip on the best gross position with a fine 25 gross points. In a welcome return to the winners' enclosure Mary Stuart was third with 38 points.The time sheet is now open for our premier event of the season. The Lady Captain Brege McCarrick's prise will be played over 18 holes with a 6 hole playoff in the evening on Sunday August 15th.
