Futsal finals prove a good success
The Westmeath Community Games County Futsal Finals were held in TUS, Athlone on Friday March 24, where there was plenty of competition and skills on show on the night.
Futsal is a type of soccer that is played indoors on a much smaller court. The smaller field size ensures a game of Futsal is fast-paced and more intense, with more opportunity for goal scoring.
The U13 girls played a competitive game, with Mount Temple Baylin meeting a strong Drumraney Tang side.
The first county final of the evening was a very keenly contested affair, with Drumraney Tang scoring two late goals. They proceeded to take the gold on a score line of 6-4 over a very competitive Baylin-Mount Temple. There were some lovely skills on display and well done to all involved. Best of luck to Drumrane Tang as they go forward to compete at Leinster's Community Games Finals.
Elsewhere, in the U13 Boys competition, it was Athlone East who came through as County Finalist winners against Drumraney Tang in what was a very competitive and fast-paced series of games.
Thank you to Anthony for coordinating the games and to his team of volunteers; to our referees, parents and supporters, and especially our players. Thanks to their coaches and management teams for a great evening of Futsal and competition. Overall, it was a very well run event and all participants had a fantastic time in TUS, Athlone.
Winners on the night: U13 Girls - Drumraney Tang; U13 Boys - Athlone East.
Best of luck to our teams as they go forward to represent the Westmeath Community Games at Leinster's in April.
The Leinster Community Games finals for Futsal will be held on Saturday April 29, in Longford with a venue to be confirmed. All Area secretaries of teams involved will be contacted as updates become available.
