Mullingar winners in Texaco Children’s Art Competition

Three Westmeath students have won top prizes in this year’s Texaco Children’s Art Competition.

They are: seven-year-old twin brothers William and Nicholas Glynn, both pupils at All Saints National School, Mullingar; and Amy Zhao (age 18), from Our Lady’s Bower Secondary School, Athlone.

All were winners of Special Merit Awards for artworks that final adjudicator, Professor Gary Granville said “were imaginative and displayed high levels of skill and creativity”.

William won first prize in the six years and under age category last year, and Nicholas won a Special Merit Award. Amy won first prize in the 12-13 years age category in 2017, second prize in the 14-15 years age category in 2020 and Special Merit Awards in 2018 and 2021.

This is the 69th year of the Texaco Children’s Art Competition. It is regarded as the longest-running partnership in the history of arts sponsoring in Ireland, and has an unbroken history from the first competition, held in 1955.

This year, as has been the case throughout its life, it has been a platform on which young artists from Westmeath and counties throughout Ireland have had their talents recognised and their creativity commended.
