On a night designed to recognise and reward sporting excellence, stars of the past and the future gathered in the magnificent Mullingar Park Hotel on Friday night last, February 1 for the inaugural Mullingar Park Hotel sponsored Westmeath Sports Stars of the Year 2007.
Almost on the stroke of midnight, the event`s excellent compere, RTE presenter, Colm Murray opened the all important envelope to reveal that Mullingar Harriers athlete, Martin Fagan, the winner of the Sports Star of the Month for July, had claimed the overall award and as he made his way to the presentation podium, a packed audience rose to applaud him.
