Busy schedule of events for August

The club have a busy schedule of events for August, starting next weekend with an Open weekend, sponsored by Michael Horan"s Golf Shop (Birr). Following quickly after that, is the third of the Golf fests from Thursday to Sunday, August 7/8/9/10.Full details later. The President"s (Michael O"Brien) Prize for both Ladies and Gents is up for decision on August 16/17, while the Annual Clubhouse Classic and Raffle is pencilled in for August 29/30/31. The course is looking its best and members and guests are invited to take advantage of the good weather and facilities during the month.Captain"s PrizeThe final of the Captain"s (Padraig Keenan) Prize was played out in bright sunshine last Sunday. With the course in superb condition, scoring was expected to be hot also, but none of the 90 finalists were able to carve out a decisive advantage in the morning"s 18-hole event. However, leading qualifier, Gerry Somers, did enough to be joined in the final pairing for the evening play-off by Damien Milton and Martin Heavin.This proved an intriguing battle, which came down to the last green. Gerry held his nerve to emerge the winner by one shot from Damien and claim the title for 2008.
