Annual pilgrimage to Knock

Sunday August 9 will see the annual pilgrimage to Knock leave from Kilbeggan at 10.15am. There will be another pick up from Horseleap at 10.20am. Bookings can be mad through local organiser on 0862571645 or 0579223133.Kilbeggan Youth ClubLast Wednesday July 15 the club, committee and some leaders took part in a first aid course in Scoil an Chlochair. The Course was facilitated by James Mullins a Paramedic with the H S E.James gave training in CPR (cardiac pulmonary resusitation) some other areas covered were burns, fractures/ brakes, control of bleeding, allergic reactions to mention but a few. James also demonstrated the use of AED defibrillator. Having put us trough our paces, all course members agreed it was very beneficial. This is the first of three course nights, at the end twenty four leaders and some youth members will be trained.U12 League Group 2BKillucan 2.06Kilbeggan/St.Josephs 1.16Kilbeggan/St.Josephs U12s made the trip to Joristown to play Kilucan in the penultimate game of Group 2B on Wednesday July 15, St Swithin's Day.Captain for the day Sean Hanlon went in for the toss of the coin which the home team won and they elected to play down the hill in the first half. The Saffron's were quickest off the mark with the first point after three minutes and quickly followed with another.Kilbeggan/St Josephs got up ahead of steam scoring nine unanswered points, all coming from open play. Aaron McNamee started the ball rolling with the first of his two points in the opening half; David Fleming scored three with his trusted left boot while full forward Sean Maher also added three points with Morgan Mealiffe on the score sheet with a point.During this period the Kilbeggan/St Josephs defence was exceptional with the player's man of the match Bart Gorski to the fore with great blocks and interceptions.Bart was well flanked by Ryan Coughlan and Ronan Cooper who both mopped up a lot of loose ball and cleared their lines well. Ciaran Egan was playing a great game and was involved in the build up for a number of the scores while Colm Heffernan at centre back was as solid as a rock.Debutant Jack Farrell played very well and indeed new players are always welcome, in fact the more the better. (Training each Saturday morning at 10am). But just as the visitors were coasting towards half time the home team pointed a free and scored two goals in the space of a minute just before half time to leave the score Killucan 2.05 Kilbeggan/St.Josephs 0.09.Morgan Mealliffe opened the scoring in the second half before the home team extended their lead back up to two points. Mealiffe and Maher added points to level the score, Mealiffe's score coming with the fist. Killucan came back up the field but the Kilbeggan/St Josephs defence who were well marshalled by Keith Corcoran held firm. James Finnegan who had an outstanding game throughout got a grip of midfield along with his partner James Fox. Mealiffe put Kilbeggan/St Josephs into the lead and Sean Pettit added his second point. The game clinching score came when David Fleming stuck the ball right in the bottom corner of the net to give the visitors some breathing space. Overall in the game there were thirty three scores on a beautiful pitch which was basking in summer sunshine. Kilbeggan/St Josephs had nine players on the score sheet with the neighbours David Fleming and Sean Pettit scoring four points apiece. From midfield James Fox scored three points from play with the other midfielder James Finnegan finishing off the scoring with the final point of the game. Aaron McNamee scored a goal in the first half before giving Kilbeggan/St.Josephs keeper Keith Corcoran a run out the field for the second half. Both Corcoran and McNamee made some outstanding saves during the game. Eoin Kelly warmed up for the upcoming u10 game scoring a well taken goal. Centre forward Morgan Mealiffe scored a point in the second half before switching positions with full back Bart Gorski who was on hand to score a goal near the end. The versatile Sean Hanlon was the other Kilbeggan/St Joseph's player to score with a goal. Jack Farrell, Bart Gorski Ronan Cooper along with the half back line of Ciaran Egan, Colm Heffernan and Hugh Boyle made the Tubber/Ballycumber forwards work very hard for their scores. Aaron McDonnell, Omo Bisiryu and Michael Pettit all played well in this great game.
