Coralstown Kinnegad GAA held a wonderful field day on a glorious summer Sunday to mark the 125th Anniversary of the GAA.There was underage football for every age group and field activities included long puck, rounders, sponge baths, tennis ball shoot, skittles, penalty shootout and cross bar challenge. There was even tug of war and a dancing competition. Considering the first ever GAA match in Westmeath 121 years ago was played between Kinnegad and Delvin it was fitting that this afternoon of celebration in Kinnegad involved young and old from every estate and townland in Kinnegad and Coralstown. Well done to the club for putting on such a great range of fun for all on an occasion that will certainly be remembered for a while.First Communion in KinnegadCongratulations to all the young people of St Etchen"s who made their First Communion on Saturday. This week it the turn of Clonard where the First Communion is at 11 a.m. in Clonard Church on Saturday.Charity GAA Match Raises Funds for Westmeath HospiceThe over 40"s match between Coralstown Kinnegad and Mullingar Shamrocks last Saturday has raised €1600 for Westmeath Hospice. The beautiful evening saw a great exhibition of football from the two teams that contested many senior finals and semi finals in the 1990"s. Old friendships were renewed and a great evening was enjoyed by all. The game finished in a draw 3-11 to 4-8 and Christy Greville was man of the match with Willie Hyland getting score of the game. The team was managed by their old manger Barney Cannon who had some inspirational half time words and he was assisted by Martin Plunkett. The game was refereed by the former Miltownpass great John Joe Brady who had his hands full trying to keep track of all the scores. The event took place the evening before a whole day of celebration at Coralstown Kinnegad and Mullingar to mark the 125th Anniversary of the GAA. After the match there was a social evening in Brian Coynes. All monies collected from sponsor cards, at the gate of the match or at the social will be going to the Westmeath Hospice. The next Tuesday Night social is on the 26th May from 7:30 pm until 10:30 p.m. The library is still open every Thursday in Serenity House from 2 until 4 p.m. Anyone who wants to avail of free transport to and from Serenity House to any of the social nights please phone 9375629 or 9374186. Go for Life Classes are at 10:30 a.m. and continue each Monday. New members are always very welcome to attend any or all of the activities. Serenity house is the ideal place to meet old friends and make new acquaintances.Pride of Place again for KinnegadKinnegad has again been chosen to represent Westmeath in the Pride of Place Competition. The many sporting cultural community and parish organisations can again showcase their great work in the Kinnegad area. From the canal to Killucan Station, from the impressive Coralstown Kinnegad GAA facilities to the new soccer field, from the Dance lab to Serenity house to the many groups who are looking after so many locally. This year many new residents" associations have sprung up, the whole community supported the Community Council, the GAA and the soccer in raising funds for three defibrillators and organising training, and Kinnegad Live showcased local talent. It is also the centenary of Kinnegad Church and there will be many parish events to commemorate this. The All Ireland Pride of Place judging for Kinnegad takes place in July. All sporting, social and community groups in Kinnegad are asked to contact Kinnegad Community Council as soon as possible. The tickets for the raffle for the Vintage Fordson Major Tractor, €1000 and a flat screen TV will be on sale at Mass in the parish churches over the next 3 weekends. Grass cutting at Clonard Cemetery, expressions of interest to 9391030 by Friday the 15th May at 1pm. The rosary will take place in Coralstown Church at 8pm each Sunday and Thursday during the month of May. There will be a parish golf classic in Trim on the 11th September.
