e-Working Centre set to open

Mullingar’s new e-Working Centre for commuters is set to open next month.
Announced earlier this year, the e-Working Centre, which will be locted in the grounds of the council’s civic offices in Mullingar, has been established for use by people living in the wider Mullingar area who currently travel long distances to work.
‘The proposed e-Working Centre will provide commuters with an opportunity to work closer to home, availing of working space with communications and IT systems in an office environment in the grounds of the Council’s Civic Offices in Mullingar. Using the proposed e-Working Centre will result in many benefits for individuals including substantial time and cost savings for both employee and employer,’ a council spokesman said.
Users of the e-Working Centre, which is available for booking from September 2, should be employed within commuting distance of Mullingar and currently use either private or public transport to attend work. Normal work base location should be at least 20km from Mullingar. Employers’ written agreement must be provided together with public liability insurance indemnifying Westmeath County Council.
Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, Cllr Peter Burke said that centre will help improve the quality of life of commuters whose employers give them the green light to work from Mullingar.
“From an environmental side it will reduce emissions, as well as reducing the cost factor and reducing stress levels. Also if someone books a place in the centre for more than one day a week, they are going to make the council staff’s car park available at a reduced rate.”
“It’s very positive for people who commute to Dublin, who could save themselves two hours a day.”
