Davinia nets top fashion prize with vintage outfit
An outfit from a vintage store, a bag and shoes borrowed from her sisters and a hat made by her carpenter husband resulted in a Portarlington fashionista winning the annual Sustainable Style competition at Kilbeggan Races last week.
The Bellamianta-sponsored competition was won by Davinia Knight, who won a huge array of prizes as well as €1,000 in cash for her imaginative and sustainable outfit which wowed the judges and ticked all the right boxes when it came to sustainable fashion.
All the finalists in the Sustainable Style competition embraced the spirit of the event by creating upcycled ensembles and beloved ethical brands in their thrifted, borrowed and handmade outfits.
Sustainable fashion stylist and columnist, Roxanne Parker, was the adjudicator of the style competition, and said she was looking for people who had “rented looks, shopped vintage, upcycled pieces, or customised a previously worn piece.”
She was also on the lookout for those who supported a local Irish designer, or who chose to re-wear something they already owned.
The overall winner, Davinia Knight, braved the inclement weather by wearing a powder blue outfit from The Store Yard Vintage Shop in Portlaoise; a hat made by her carpenter husband with styrofoam, her mum's faux flower wreath and fabric from a blouse she bought in a charity shop.
The outfit was accessorised with a bag and shoes borrowed from her sisters.
