Fergus Murphy, new Head Coach at Mullingar Tennis Club.

Fergus Murphy appointed Head Coach

Mullingar Tennis Club notes

The club is delighted to announce that Fergus Murphy has accepted the role of Head Coach at the club after 3 years at Blackrock Tennis Club, Dublin.

Fergus has garnered a lot of experience in his career and his new role will be to manage all tennis coaching activities for the Club. His appointment is a really important step as it will strengthen tennis coaching in Mullingar, offering a lot to all members - young and less young, beginners and experienced players.

Local players in Longford Senior Open Tournament

Some of our players were involved in the Longford Open finals, notably Tammy Duffy and Alaine Clarke, both Mullingar, who played each other in the Ladies 2 final, with Tammy defeating Alaine by 7/6, 6/2, the first set being won on a tiebreak. Other Mullingar players involved in finals were Fergus Murphy and Declan Breen, who lost in a trilling 3-set match having won the first set 6/3 before losing the next two 3/6, 5/7.

Another partial Mullingar derby was between Scott Hubbard and Conor Walsh and Henk Barnard and Brendan Corcoran, who lost to Henk and Brendan 2/6, 4/6. Henk and Tammy were successful in the Mixed 2 Doubles, winning the first set 6/4 and then losing the second set 5/7, before winning the last set 6/0. Ariunaa Bassandorj and Mary Morris played in the Ladies 3 Doubles and unfortunately lost to a stronger and more experienced pairing from Longford. Mullingar Club was well represented in the tournament with a total of 18 players participating.

Thursday Morning Ladies Group

The ladies play every Thursday morning from about 1.30 to midday and then enjoy a cuppa and a chat afterwards in the clubhouse. Any ladies who wish to join in can do so; just come along.

Tennis Balls - Orange and Green

These balls are specially for children of a particular age as they do not bounce as high as the regular tennis ball. The orange is suitable for U9s and the Green for the U10s. They are now on sale in the Sports Outlet shop in Pearse Street, Mullingar.

Clothes left at the club

We have a lot of jackets, tops and various other items that have been left behind by players, both children and adults. They may be claimed from August 1 to 3, from 10.00 to 13.00, and also on Monday night, July 31. After that they will be donated to one of the charity shops in Mullingar.
