A great Bunbrosna Gael passes

The community of Bunbrosna, in particular those associated with the local GAA club, have endured some days of sadness with the the passing of Paddy McCormack on Thursday July 20.

To say Paddy was a hugely influential figure in the Bunbrosna GAA club would be an understatement. Not only was he involved with underage teams down through the years, he was also a selector on the victorious Intermediate winning team of 2010. Paddy gave a lifetime of service to Bunbrosna GAA and there are few players, past and present, who can say that Paddy wasn’t involved with a team they were on over the years.

He was very proud of his beloved club’s successes on the pitch, but the 2006 Intermediate Championship win was special as it was captained by his son, Cormac.

Paddy was also a hugely respected figure within Westmeath underage football where again he was part of successful teams. He was a selector under Luke Dempsey with the All-Ireland minor winning team in 1995 and again with the U21 All-Ireland winning team in 1999.

These were historic moments in Westmeath football and they were particularly proud for Paddy and the entire Bunbrosna GAA Club.

In later years, Paddy was actively involved in the development work carried out at the club.

He also took it on himself to keep the grounds in great order and no job was too big or small for him to take on.

Paddy passed away peacefully in the company of his loving family at the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Lynne, brothers Brendan and John, and sisters Ann and Lily. He will be very sadly missed and forever remembered by his wife and best friend Phil; his dear sons Cormac, Conor and Colm; adored grandchildren Corey, Katie, Rachel, Liam, Patrick, Nuala, Cian and Cónal; daughters-in-law Danielle and Paula; sisters Agnes, Kathleen and Maureen; nieces, nephews, relatives and many good friends and neighbours, especially from the GAA Community.
