Carey and Seery lead the way in decisive Ballinagore win

Ballinagore 1-19, Mullingar Shamrocks

Ballinagore proved too strong for a very young Mullingar Shamrocks team in wet conditions in Kilbeggan, with the sole junior 2 club coming away with a 13-point victory on Saturday.

It was a result that was never in doubt as brilliant performances from Darragh Seery and Brandon Carey inspired Ballinagore to a second win in the championship in a one-sided affair.

Ballinagore started brightly with county star Darragh Seery opening the scoring with a fine point. A free taken by Paddy Ennis and points from Brandon Carey and Cody Finnane created an uphill battle for the Mullingar men.

The vastly experienced Gary Corroon tapped over a point to get shamrocks off the mark and was followed by two well-executed frees by Caoilan Walsh to put three points between the teams. Darren Rigney’s kick-out found Brian Pidgeon who went on a superb solo run to offload the ball to Brandon Carey who finished the play with a well-taken goal.

Two more points followed from the men in maroon and white to put them seven points ahead at half time on a scoreline of 1-7 to 0-3.

It was a similar situation after the break with Ballinagore dominating in all areas across the pitch, with shamrocks finding it difficult to break through the defence. Caoilan Walsh and Gary Corroon both converted frees for Mullingar before Ballinagore hit a purple patch scoring 0-7 without reply.

The two sides traded points right up to the full-time whistle, with Ballinagore claiming their second win and leaving them tied at the top of the group with Coralstown/Kinnegad.

FIne win for Delvin over Multyfarnham

Junior Football Championship round-up: Delvin 3-8, Multyfarnham 1-9

The junior footballers of Devlin enjoyed a very welcome victory over Multyfarnham in the Junior 2 Football Championship last Friday in Loughnavalley.

Although trailing by four points at the half-time, Delvin hit the front early in the second half with two well-taken goals from substitute Darragh Clinton. A third major from Kyle Bracken put the seal on a fine win and it's a welcome boost for the club.

It was a special evening for Declan McKenna who made his debut for Delvin and overall, it was a very well-contested match.

St Paul's overturn Ballycomoyle

St Paul's 1-6, Ballycomoyle 0-7

After a couple of good results, Ballycomoyle suffered a setback when they were defeated by St Paul's, in the Junior 1 Football Championship at Moynihan Park, Ballynacargy on Saturday evening.

In wet conditions, the Clonmellon men were leading by five points at the interval, 1-5 to 0-3, and that laid the platform for a deserved victory. A Graham Boland goal proved a crucial score.

St Paul's managed just a solitary point in the second half, but it was enough to give them victory. From the throw-in this match was a tight affair, as expected, with weather conditions miserable. It made it extremely difficult for players on both side, with controlling the ball a major challenge. St Paul's went in at half-time leading on score 1-5 to 0-3; with the rain getting heavier during the interval, under foot conditions got worse and it was a considerable challenge to conjure up scores. A Philip Gilsenan point ultimately proved decisive.

Ballycomoyle did manage to out-score St. Paul’s in the second half, 0-4 to 0-1, but it was the Clonmellon side that hung on for a two-point win. Emmet Cunneen, Conor Rice, Adam Mulvany and Conor Shaw were all among the scorers for Pat Clancy's charges.

In another significant result, Kilbeggan Shamrocks had a narrow win over Bunbrosna, 2-12 to 1-14, in the Junior 1 Football Championship in Moynihan Park, Ballynacargy.
