Bomb scare in mullingar estate

Three houses in the Ardilaun area of Mullingar had to be evacuated last night, Monday, due to a bomb scare.

At approximately 11pm, gardaí were called to the Mullingar estate, where they cordoned off an area, and located a suspect device underneath a car parked in a driveway of a house.

The Army bomb disposal unit were called in and the device was taken away for further examination.

Gardaí are currently awaiting results to see if it was a viable IED or improvised explosive device.

Residents who had to be evacuated were allowed back into their homes at 3am this morning.
