A new option exists in Mullingar for shoppers who want top quality meats and poultry - and already, customers are liking what they’re seeing.

Coralstown man Tom Flynn is offering great choice and great value at the butcher’s shop he has just opened next to Tesco.

Tom is passionate about what he does, and he and manager Greg Lynch have put great effort into sourcing suppliers who can provide the sort of quality, choice and value that they believe customers deserve.

As a result, their suppliers include Ballymoney Meats, Waldron Meats, Buggy Food and Green Farm Foods, all based in the midlands; and their sausages and puddings are from the award-winning ranges produced by FX Buckley, a firm for which Greg worked for three years.

For Sunday lunches and special occasions, there are roasts to suit every pocket and taste, whether your preference is for a succulent roast pork, a shoulder or leg of lamb, a flavoursome chicken or a joint of beef.

For stewing meats, there is great choice, and a range of minced meats and chopped meats for stir fries. Always popular - and convenient - are chicken breasts, pork chops lamb cutlets, steaks and burgers, and if you’re not sure how best to cook a product, any member of the team of four working there will be able to make suggestions.

Tom himself has a lifetime’s experience in the food world: he grew up on a dairy and drystock farm, and after school did his apprenticeship with Tormey’s in Mullingar, moving on then to work with John Tormey in Galway. That has led to a firm understanding of what works for customers and so, as well as fresh meats, Tom Flynn’s stocks a tempting array of pre-prepared meats such as stir fries and chicken parcels.

Already, the Flynn gourmet burger made with best quality beef and a special seasoning mix has gained quite a fan following.

“It’s a bigger burger, and it’s very tasty and proving very popular: we’re getting people coming back for them all the time and saying how lovely they are,” says Tom.

Their sausages are also proving a big hit - and Tom assures those who appreciate rind-on rashers that you won’t beat his rind-on range.

Customers like also the assurance that comes from the four-strong team working at Flynn’s that the pre-prepared meals can all be home-frozen as they are made fresh at Flynn’s.

As well as meat and poultry, Flynns supplies fresh eggs, and they are able to supply meats for large orders such as parties or barbecues.

An attractive option for customers is the range of “family pack” deals which offer a combination of meats and poultry; also their monthly options. An innovative offering is the “protein pack”, aimed at the body-conscious or those keen to keep to a low-fat high-protein regimen.

“We have also launched a Christmas Club,” says Tom, explaining that customers can save a weekly amount so that at the most expensive time of the year, they know they are not facing into a hefty bill to fill the fridge.

Flynn Family Butchers is located at Ashe Road Shopping Centre, Mullingar (Tesco). It is open 9am-6pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and 8am-6pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
