Primary Schools show their class in jumping arena
Another successful primary schools showjumping event took place at the centre on Saturday last. The enthusiasm, excitement and camaraderie among the young competitors was evident from the outset.Forty eight riders from 12 different schools took part in the feature team event.Taylor Cummins and Clodagh Tuite from Rathcairn NS set the standard with two beautiful clear rounds and with great efforts from Yvonne Coffey and Mairead Halpin assured Rathcairn NS of a place in the jump off. Rathcairn NS were soon to be joined by Scoil Oilibheir Naofa NS, Maynooth and Tirmohain NS, Donadea. Clear rounds from Roisin Fagan and Eleanor Waldron representing St. Cremins, Multyfarnham guaranteed the Multy team a spot in the third round.Graham Daly, Caoimhe Gaffney, Adam Hyland and Sara Hughes put up a superb performance for St. Tolas NS with just four faults denying them a place in the clock round. A combined team of Rachel Shaw, Ben Mills, Patrick Ennis and Kaylin Ryan deserved their place in the jump off as these four riders seldom miss a Friday night show and as they say 'practice makes perfect'.Sixteen riders went through to the jump off representing eight schools. Such was the standard that as each riders continued to go clear it was time that decided the final placings. Proving that last year"s win was not a fluke the Primary Schools Cup returned once again to Scoil Cholmcille NS, Skryne.A new competition was introduced this year for the younger riders. This class was kindly sponsored by Laura Drumm, VS. Well done to Eoghan Fagan, St. Cremins, Multyfarnham who teamed up with Colin Doherty to finish joint winners with Headfort School in this new novice 40 cm pairs team event.James Drumm, representing St. Tolas was also placed having jumping a superb clear. Nano Healy and Chloe Foley finished runners-up in the very popular Paris Relay with Roisin Fagan and Ashling McGreal in fourth.A special thank you to everyone who helped out on the day and particularly the parents and Chef d"Equipes who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.
