Cara Phort exploring community through photography
On a hot Indian Summer’s evening in Cara Phort Family Resource Centre in Ballynacargy, an exhibition of works by young photographers from the area went on display.
It was the culmination of a month’s work facilitated by photographic artist Emma O’Brien, in conjunction with Westmeath Arts and funded through the Creative Ireland programme.
“Young people came for the month of June and attended eight workshops, giving teenagers aged between 12 and 14, both practical and creative experience.
Photography is a great way for young people to explore their surroundings and engage with their community, and you can see that on display here this evening,” said Emma on Thursday last week at the launch event.
“We put together this exhibition in the month of August to complete the work and to celebrate what they had achieved, and I would just like to say a big well done to all involved,” said Emma, who concluded by giving thanks to Westmeath Arts Office, Creative Ireland, and “Cara Phort for supporting us in delivering the programme”.
The exhibition runs until Thursday September 14.
