Busy weekend for club teams
This was a very busy weekend for players mentors and supporters. On Saturday last, the under-12 panel headed to Brownstown to compete in the late Paddy Monaghan Tournament. They played four games and emerged victorious by beating St. Oliver Plunketts in the final.MinorOn Sunday morning our minor panel headed to Lakepoint Park to play Lough Lene Gaels in the semi-final. This was a brilliant game by two very skilful teams. It ended all square in ordinary time. After extra time the Gaels were winners by a goal. What a pity there had to be a loser. Well done lads.Under-10Then it was back to Joristown for the Mattie Joe Greville for the under-10 tournament. What a pity the day was so wet. Nevertheless the games went ahead with six teams participating: Trim, St. Oliver Plunketts, Brownstown, Turin, Lough Lene Gaels and Raharney. After a couple of hours great hurling, the Shield final took place between St. Oliver Plunketts and Turin. This was a very entertaining game and could have gone anyway. But in the end Turin were victorious. Mattie Joe presented both teams with placks and David O"Brien got player-of-the-match.Our under-10 boys won the final against Lough Lene Gaels in the winners division. Great hurling was played by both teams. After the game Mattie Joe presented Mark Gorman (capt) with the cup, and medals to both teams. Conor Donoghue also won player-of-the-match.Great praise must go to the referees and to the organising lads who kept everything running smoothly. Thanks also to all parents and anybody who made sandwiches and provided buns etc for the team and supporters. Thanks also to the ladies who kept the tea flowing on a miserable wet day. Thanks again to Mattie Joe for providing under-8s and under-10s with the tournament.Senior semi-finalthis weekendBest of luck to our senior team who play St. Oliver Plunketts in the semi-final of the Championship on Saturday next at 5.45p.m. in Cusack Park.
