Local junior pairing win successful open fourball

Last Saturday week’s open fourball attracted a fine entry, with a good sprinkling of visitors and as expected with the superb playing conditions and fabulous autumn weather, the scoring in the three quarters handicap allowance was outstanding.All the prizes on the day were won by relatively low handicappers. The top award went to Ronan Purcell (12) in partnership with junior golfer of the year Elan Darcy (11). Their forty four points edged them home in front of the Bernard McDonnell (3)-Ross McKinley (5) combination with Sean Finnegan(5) and Brendan Buckley (10) collecting third with forty two points.Gents’ seniors’ golfAfter recent weeks of Ryder Cup and Strandhill outings the senior members returned to our normal weekly competition on Tuesday, October 12. In excess of sixty members competed over 15 holes on what was a truly magnificent day for golf.The scoring matched the excellent conditions with Matt Talbot winning with a point to spare over Conor Maguire. Damien Daly was a further point behind in third place. Not to be outdone, Bruno Coghlan was the clear winner of the super senior prize. A reminder that the competition on Tuesday, October 26 will be kindly sponsored by the captain, Mr. Liam Conlon.Turkeys galoreYes it’s that time of year again; turkey competitions will be the order of the day for the foreseeable future.Notices regarding same will be posted in the locker room, etc.Ladies BranchPlanet Beauty of Dominick Street sponsored last week’s competition.Low lying fog led to difficult conditions with quite a few lost balls. Patience and experience won the day for Cally O’Donovan who returned an excellent score of 35 points.Annmarie Conlon continued her fine form of late taking the runner up spot with 34points. Patience Collier maintains her grip on the best gross score whilst Marjorie Donoghue showed a welcome return to form with 33points.The presentation for this and all other outstanding prizes will be held on November 10.
