Duff and Hope clinch the points as Gallen toppled
This was Mullingar Town’s best performance of the season when they beat the home side, Gallen United by three goals to nil. It hit the underside of the crossbar, then the back of the goalkeeper’s head and finished up in the back of the net.It was a great goal and it gave Mullingar Town a huge lift in confidence and they played their best football of the season for the rest of the game. Keith Hope playing in his first full game for the first team was in great form and the Gallen United defence could not handle him and he scored two great goals in the second half to give the Town a commanding lead.He scored Mullingar’s second in the 63rd minute when he hit a shot from the right hand side of the penalty area into the left hand corner of the net and he got his second and the Town’s third goal on 78 minutes when he finished off a great move started by Jason Charles and Joe Cassidy and Ethan Scally to put young Hope through to score with a shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net.Mullingar Town had other chances throughout the game but were unlucky not to take them. Jason Charles and his brother, Stephen were unlucky with their efforts. Gary Brady had a great chance of making it four nil with eight minutes to go but the Gallen ‘keeper made a great save.
