Horseleap Streamstown Community Association Notes

On Wednesday night the 3rd of September the monthly meeting of the local ICA Guild will take place at 8.30pm in Horseleap Streamstown Community Centre where an open invitation is there for new members to come along and join the existing members as they draw up a full schedule of activities for the coming months.The first course cuts in on the following Wednesday the 10th of September commencing at 7.30pm for 6 weeks duration on 'Healthy Food Made Easy'. For more information or details please come along on this Wednesday night.There are also plans to make a Day Trip to Lough Derg in October with a date yet to be confirmed. There has been great excitement and activity over the summer months with the ladies actively involved in the Set Dancing having performed at various venues which took them within a stone"s throw in the locality, to Castlepollard, Kilbeggan, Ballycumber, Dundrum, the World Fleadh in Portlaoise and the Leinster in Tullamore, with each venue gaining experience and having fun and frolics and meeting people from various parts of the country. Well done to the ladies, their mentors, musicians, supporters and already a plan is in force for events coming up in 2009.A vote of sympathy was extended to Eilish McDonnell following the death of her mother, Maureen Robbins on the 9th of July, and to Eileen Robbins on the death of her mother-in-law. Congratulations to Eilish and Paddy McDonnell on the marriage of their son Ronan to Nicola Donlon on the 7th of August last, and to Eileen and Pat Slevin on the marriage of their son Padraic to Mary Burns on the 30th of August last. Congratulations to all who celebrated events of happiness over the summer period. Please accept this as an invitation to attend the meeting with an interest to affiliating to the Guild and see what classes and events are planned for the coming weeks and months.SympathySincere sympathy is extended Phonsie Daly, The Village, Horseleap following the death of his father Jimmy Daly, Frevenagh, Durrow who passed away peacefully in Bethany Nursing Home Tyrrellspass following a long illness, on the 23rd of August last. Jimmy was well known far and wide among the farming community in days gone by as the 'Pig Man' as he had called on farm-to-farm buying pigs. He was also well known for his involvement down the years on Kilbeggan Race Committee.His removal took place on Monday last from the family home to St Colmcille"s Church Durrow with concelebrated funeral Mass on Tuesday last. Sincere sympathy to his wife, Mollie, sons, James, Gerard, Dominic and Gerard, daughters Mary and Frances, brothers, sisters, sisters-in-law, son-in-law, daughters-in-law including Margaret, grandchildren, nieces including Myra Pettit, nephews, relatives and friends.Sincere Sympathy is extended to the Vickers family following the death of Teresa (Tess) Vickers, Boher, Streamstown on Saturday August 30th at The Mater Hospital, Dublin, pre-deceased by her husband Tom 18 years ago, and son Gabriel in infancy. Tess had only lost her brother Tom Martin a few short weeks ago, and now the family gathered to mourn the loss of Tess. Her remains were removed from her family home on Sunday evening to St Brigid"s Church, Boher and funeral Mass was to be celebrated on Monday. Deepest sympathy to her son Declan and his wife Margaret, grandchildren Aisling and Thomas, her brother Paddy Martin, her sisters, May Glynn, Kathy Reynett and Sheila Morgan, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends. CongratulationsCongratulations and best wishes are extended to John and Janet Keegan, Lurrig on the birth of their second child a son, Christopher Patrick, a brother for Daniel. Congratulations to the proud grandparents Jimmy and Anne Keegan and all of the Keegan and Carey family at this time.Lough DergSome ladies from the locality are trying to gather names of interested parties in planning a day trip to Lough Derg over the coming weeks. It can be amalgamated with areas surrounding us. There are some available dates with one to be decided on. If you would like to put your name forward or obtain details of when and what is involved please give Betty Keegan a ring on 0579332489 over the coming week.Set dancing classesAlready there has been interest in the return of the céilí and set dancing classes which are scheduled to return on Thursday night the 11th of September. All are welcome to attend to come and join us in learning the steps.Wednesday ClubThis Wednesday the 3rd of September will see the return of the Wednesday Club following the summer recess. It is hoped that all of the members will return for the meetings, game and chat while enjoying each others company.Wedding bellsCongratulations and every good wish are extended to Padraic Slevin, The Village, Streamstown, son of Pat and Eileen Slevin who was married to Mary Burns on Saturday last August 30th in St Mary"s Church Granard followed by a reception with family and friends in The Bloomfield House Hotel, Mullingar.
