Aertel switched off at almost 40 years

Who remembers searching RTÉ's teletext service Aertel for movies, lotto results, and even last minute holidays?

Well the services has been switched off after nearly 40 years in service.

It first went live 1986 as an experiment, before being formally launched a year later, and provided news, tv schedules, and sports results.

RTÉ have said that its closure had been planned since the publication of its Strategy 2024 back in 2019.

RTÉ said that resources previously allocated to Aertel will now go towards improving its online services.
