Library service encouraging road safety through poster competition

Westmeath County Council Road Safety Office and Westmeath Libraries want to encourage families and schools to talk about road safety through a poster competition.

They point out that as winter approaches, weather conditions get worse and daylight hours shorten but people still have to travel for work, school and recreation.

With that in mind, they invite national school children to design road safety awareness posters (maximum A3 size) with suggested themes such as:

• Safe Routes to school

• Be aware – share the road

• Slow Down

• Rules of the Road

• Make walking safe

• Slow down

Children can enter in the following categories: Age 4-7, 8-10, 11-13.

Entries can be returned to your local Westmeath Library by November 17.

Remember, a conversation with family or friends about road safety can make all the difference – it can kick-start new habits, it can encourage everyone to think about their behaviour on the roads and it can affirm that everyone can play their part in making our roads safer.
