Mick and Mondo coming to the Arts Centre

One of the most popular of Irish actors remains Mick Lally; a man who seems to go on tirelessly in a business that is testing and tough, but in which he, clearly, thrives.Mullingar theatre fans will be glad to know he's on his way back to town, as one of the stars of the comedy "God's Official", which City Theatre Dublin is to present at the Arts Centre in Mullingar later this month. The theme of the play, which won the Spirit of the Fringe Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, is simple: to some people football is a matter of life and death, to others it is far more important than that …Written, by Robert Farquhar, the play is about two football fans, who have just seen their side relegated after a referee disallowed what they reckon was a perfectly good goal. The ref's dodgy decision opened the way for the opposition to go down to the other end and score. But is the referee's decision final? The two cheated fans decide to take matters into their own hands, and their chosen method of obtaining the result they want is to kidnap the referee, in a bid to force him to change his mind. This has, predictably, hilarious and unexpected consequences.Starting alongside Mick Lally is to be George McMahon ("Mondo" from Fair City) and rising star, Edwin Mullane, The play is running for one evening only - April 24 - at 8 p.m. at the Arts Centre, and tickets are available at 93 47777.
