Tie me kangaroo down sport...
The Kinnegad Kangaroo has caused an outbreak of hilarity in the area. On 23rd July, reports flooded radio stations, newsooms, twitter and facebook that a merry marsupial was bouncing around Ballinabracky, a small Meath village beside Kinnegad.Reports suggest that Gardai were investigating and serious driving sites including Irish Trucker.com warned their hauliers to be vigilant as kangaroos are known to be jumpy around traffic. While there have been no further kangaroo sightings, a series of road signs have been altered in and around the home of children’s TV presenter Dale Treadwell.“People are connecting the kangaroo to me because we are both Australian but really it has nothing to do with me. But the signs, they keep appearing and they are all funny but really, I must stress if there is a kangaroo, it has nothing to with me,” Dale told the Westmeath Examiner.Dale does not think the signs are malicious but just reflect the great humour of the community where he lives:“My friends out here are all very funny so I would say I wouldn’t have to look too far or hard to know who’s doing this but it is a mystery. My neighbours take the signs down and overnight they are replaced with new ones.”On 21 August Dale Treadwell will be heading up a “Wild Child” Bio-Blitz at Belvedere House Gardens and Park, as part of National Heritage week. The event is free for children and Dale will lead children out into the estate where they will hunt for insects and plantsand learn to identify them using keys and record everything they find.
