Collinstown farm makes €14,000 per acre

Thomas Potterton reported three successful farm sales at REA TE Potterton auction rooms at The Property Exchange, Trim last week.

The first property to be offered for sale was a 95-acre farm at Gillstown, Athboy which sold under the hammer in three separate lots. The first lot comprised a derelict residence and farmyard on 37 acres, which sold at €421,000 to a farmer/ businessman. The second lot was opposite the aforementioned lot and comprised one field of 20 acres, which sold to an online customer for €186,000. The third lot comprised 38 acres situated at the end of a cul de sac, off the Athboy, Oldcastle road, and it sold at €270,000 to a Leitrim farmer who owns land in the area.

The Westmeath farms comprised a 20-acre parcel of ground situated at Glaxtown, Collinstown. That lot attracted huge interest prior to auction and on the day the bidding opened at €170,000. It was knocked down to an online buyer at €281,600, which equates to €14,000 per acre.

The second holding was a fine 36-acre non residential farm close to Raharney, and two active bidders took it to €401,500, and it was knocked down to a businessman with farming interest.
