Planning granted for 245 unit residential development in Mullingar

Planning permission has been granted for a major new housing development on the Dublin Road.

The successful application by local building firm Andrews Construction includes details for the construction of 245 residential units comprising: 70 four-bed semi-detached houses; 132 three-bed houses, which will be a mixture of terraced, semi-detached and detached units; eight two-bed duplex units, and one four storey apartment block comprising: 14 one-bed units, 15 two-bed units and six three-bed units.

The development, which is situated on a 10 hectare site in Petitswood townland, will also include a two storey creche/childcare facility, 442 parking spaces, 550 bicycle parking spaces, as well as communal open space totalling 1.78 hectares, which includes a biodiversity corridor. Residents will be able to access the development from both the Dublin Road and the Ardmore Road.

On the development's website, Andrews Constructions says that it "represents the most sustainable use of under-utilised urban lands and delivers at an appropriate density, cognisant of its neighbouring residential occupiers and patterns of development locally".

"The proposed development represents the suitable use of residential zoned lands in this area of Mullingar, which is in close proximity to local employment, education, and amenity services. It is respectfully contended that the proposed development is following the preferred approach for the development of Mullingar as a Key Town identified within the Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy, and complies with the provisions and goals of the Ardmore / Marlinstown Development Framework."
