No Halloween hibernating at Presentation Convent Junior School
It was a busy two months at Presentation Convent Junior as the school community settled into another year, and welcomed Junior Infants, new students, and their families to the school.
Marie Byrne the home school liaison teacher held coffee mornings to meet the new Junior Infant parents and encouraged parents to come along and get involved in the parents classes. This term, Miss Byrne organised an art class for parents and Cara from Cara’s Craft Studio hosted the class. Miss Byrne has also organised a walking group for parents every Friday morning.
On October 18, 36 first and second class children headed to the Westmeath Schools Cross Country in Belvedere. They had a super day despite the weather and the children gave a great display of running. The school had some individual and team medals and everyone is proud of all the children. Thanks to all parents who came to support on the day. Maths Week was held in the school on October 16-20. All the children completed maths Week activities and trails and spotted lots of examples of maths in the environment. Thanks to the Omniplex Cinema and Reda for sponsoring some of the prizes for the competitions.
The school had a visit from some of the St Loman’s team members who won the Flanagan Cup. Mr Gaffney, one of Presentation teachers, plays on the team. Well done Mr Gaffney and teammates.
The Speech and Language Class is a focused and dynamic unit where the goal for children is to further develop their skills. Mrs Elliot is the class teacher and works closely with Emily, the speech and language therapist who visits each week.
Presentation Convent Junior are lucky to have an speech and language class and to be able to offer a unique learning opportunity for children and their families who benefit from the support.
