Contracts signed for planning and design phase of regional swimming pool and sports centre
The long awaited new swimming pool and regional sports centre for Mullingar moved a step closer this week when the contracts were signed for the design and planning phase of the multi-million euro project.
In a statement issued to the local press, Westmath County Council said:
"Westmeath County Council has appointed a multi-disciplinary team to progress the Mullingar Regional Sports Complex at Robinstown, Mullingar from concept design through the statutory planning process. Henry J Lyons (Architects) Ltd are providing a highly experienced team, including Tom McNamara and Partners, ORS, PMCE, TVAS and KKP.
"The overarching project objective of this project is to develop a coordinated approach to sporting provision that engages the sporting, statutory, community and education providers in its development. The vision of the project is to develop a sports complex that is an exemplar in accessible sustainable buildings, which must be designed to adapt to inevitable changes in society, work patterns and leisure over the decades to come."
The Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, Councillor Liam McDaniel, welcomed the signing of the contract.
"This demonstrates Westmeath County Council’s ongoing commitment to the development of this sporting infrastructure including an additional swimming pool in the County’, said Cllr McDaniel.
The Chief Executive of Westmeath County Council, Pat Gallagher, also welcomed the appointment of Henry J Lyons and their team.
"This significant milestone should assist Westmeath County Council in securing national funding to help us deliver on our vision to provide state of the art, cutting-edge high-quality Sports Complex to serve Mullingar and the surrounding area."
