Burke welcomes €350k funding for local community projects

The news that almost €350,000 in Clár funding has been allocated to community projects in seven local communities has been welcomed by Minister of State Peter Burke.

Speaking this morning, Minister Burke praised the successful community groups for their efforts and said that he was “looking forward to seeing how these projects have an impact locally”.

He also said that the funding is further proof of the government's “commitment” to communities in rural Ireland.

“I am delighted that communities are coming together and developing their shared spaces and enhancing the local amenities. This funding allocation is highlighting the government’s commitment to build stronger, safer communities and I acknowledge the good work by all the voluntary committees to bring these applications to fruition.”

The following Westmeath based projects were successful in securing funding:

Gaine Park, Multyfarnham, Public toilets, €45,000;

Rosemount Community Centre, Upgrade outdoor recreational area, €49,968;

Multyfarnham Men’s Shed and Lakelands Area Retreat and Cancer Centre (LARCC), Cloister refurbishment and wheelchair access to Men’s Shed, €27,000;

Streete Parish Park, Purchase indoor gym equipment and convert space in the community hall into Indoor multi use gym facility, €50,000;

Bunbrosna View Residents Association, Kilbeggan Linear Park and heritage signage upgrade, €50,000;

Market Hill Residents Association, Ballymore and St Owen's Church of Ireland, Exercise equipment and restoration works to St Owen's Church of Ireland, €26,698;

Gaine Park, Multyfarnham, Installation of all weather seating, €33,525;

Coole Development Group, Repair works to the existing wall at the access to Mayne graveyard including landscaping, €27,540.
