Public consultation on sport needs and Mullingar regional sports complex
Westmeath County Council plan to develop a regional sports complex in Mullingar, to cater for a wide range of mainstream and developing sports in the region and be inclusive for the whole community.
The council have engaged a multi-disciplinary design team to progress the project from concept design through the statutory planning process.
At this stage, Westmeath County Council are inviting members of the community to engage in a public consultation process, the purpose of which is to secure the views residents, community groups, sports clubs and key stakeholders of the sport needs in the region.
Cllr Liam McDaniel, cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, welcomed the commencement of consultation and highlighted the importance of participation of stakeholders including the wider community.
“Participation is key in having the sporting needs of the region met at this early stage to inform the design process from the outset,” he said.
“I urge everyone to voice their opinion through the consultation process and help shape the future of sporting infrastructure to serve the people of Mullingar and Westmeath.”
The public consultation process will include an online sport needs assessment survey as well as in-person public consultation events where people can meet the design team to discuss the proposed project.
An online sport needs assessment survey will be available via the Westmeath County Council consultation portal from Tuesday 13 February, where people can submit their views on the need for a Mullingar Regional Sports Complex.
The portal will be available here.
The online survey will close on Tuesday February 27, 2024.
In-person consultation event will be held on Tuesday February 20 and Wednesday February 2, at Westmeath County Council, Áras An Chontae, Mount Street, Mullingar, N91 FH4N, from 3pm to 8pm on both days.
It will be an opportunity to meet the design team in person.
