Over €13m roads funding for Westmeath welcomed by Troy
An announcement of over €13m of funding for roads in Westmeath has been welcomed by Deputy Robert Troy.
The funding comes as part of a €658m investment package launched nationwide aimed towards restoring and maintaining the countries road network.
The Fianna Fáil TD said the package will ensure Westmeath’s roads “are fit for purpose”.
“This is an increased investment on previous years and will allow the engineering staff to prepare a very substantial summer woks programme,” he said.
“There are also a number of key projects for the area included, such as an allocation of €470,000 for improvements at Ballycorkey Bridge, Ballynacargy.
“This bridge has been operating on a one-way system for the past year and it has become extremely frustrating for road users.”
Other key allocations include:
Castlepollard Rd, Mullingar (R394) - €100k for safety improvement works.
Springfield, Mullingar (L1002) - €80k for climate change adaption works.
L1113, Tyrrellspass - €75k for safety improvement works.
Deputy Troy said maintaining the road network is “crucial to sustaining and developing our local economies across rural Ireland”.
“These roads are imperative for children getting to school and people getting to work safely,” he said.
The local TD added that rural regeneration is a key priority of Fianna Fáil in Government.
